We are so excited that children’s author/illustrator David Wiesner will be visiting with your daughters on Wednesday, January 26. As budding artists and writers themselves, our girls will have a special chance to meet one of the most famous children’s picture book creators in the country. He will be talking with students about his newest title, Art and Max, during a short morning assembly for all Lower School students. He will then meet with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students in small groups and answer their questions about the creative process.
Mr. Wiesner’s books have won numerous awards in the United States and throughout the world. Three of the picture books that he both wrote and illustrated became instant classics when they won the prestigious Caldecott Medal: Tuesday in 1992, The Three Pigs in 2002, and Flotsam in 2007. Art and Max, the story of two friends who share an interest in painting, was released in 2010 and received superb reviews.
Should you wish to purchase one of his titles to be autographed, we have made arrangements with Children’s Book World to have books available for pre-purchase. If interested, please fill out the pre-order form I'm sending home in homework folders and return it to school by Tuesday, January 11.
This event is made possible by the Dempsey Writer-in-Residence, a fund that was established in honor of a former chair of the English department to bring highly regarded authors to our school each year.
This is an exciting opportunity for your daughters to personally meet one of the great writers of our time.
