A Message from our Communications and Marketing Department

Please know that Springside Chestnut Hill Academy places tremendous value in our communication between home and school. The primary method of sharing information with parents about important events and programs is our weekly Virtual Mailbag (VMB). Please be sure to refer to this electronic newsletter, sent on Friday afternoons, for all-school information (found on the landing page) as well as information specific to your daughter's grade level and slideshows of school life (found on the Lower School page).

Readers Workshop - Working in Book Groups and with Partners

Girls are learning many important strategies through the Units of Study for Teaching Reading created by Lucy Calkins. One current lesson teaches students to think about what the author of the book wants the reader to learn from the story. Today the girls joyfully worked with great stamina in small book groups, or with partners, on a shared text within their book level range.
They honestly did not want to stop when time was up!

We're also creating "story pies." Within each "slice" the reader shares important information and details from their current classroom reader. It's a fun way to do a book report.
