Welcome to Second Grade! 2012-2013

We've started off the year introducing the many routines and expectations of the classroom. Using Responsive Classroom techniques, we begin the day together discussing the work ahead and end the day reflecting as a group on what we have accomplished. We've already had our first math lessons and jumped right into our Words Their Way phonics work. Girls were also introduced to books about Colonial Pennsylvania for our social studies unit this fall. We are planning a field trip to the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation on Friday, September 28. More information and a permission slip will be coming home soon.

As you may know we are lucky to have a wonderful student teacher, Lauren Ingersol, assisting us in 2D for the first seven weeks of school. We are so fortunate to have her with us! She is caring, perceptive, and supportive to the girls as they begin their year in second grade.

I am excited about the year ahead and I am thrilled to have these creative, hard-working, thoughtful girls in my class!
